WHERE IT ALL
STARTED
Welcome to Fancy Canary!
As a small boy, I can remember visiting my Grandfather in a remote area of Portugal called São Simão de Litém, Pombal. He had a barn on the property that housed many animals throughout the years, but what captivated me were his bird cages. They were always full of birds he would catch, primarily
European Goldfinches. My infatuation followed me home to my backyard where my brother and father constructed an indoor/outdoor aviary that would soon house and breed canaries. Being only about seven years old, I can recall loving to give pieces of carrots to the birds through the cage, and setting up "traps" to try and catch wild birds.
Eventually I began to breed mixed canaries with my brother, a variety of finches and moved on to parakeets. I took a brief break during college and earned my Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, and got married. Once settled down I quickly realized I was missing my hobby and that's when I reached out and found South Eastern Massachusetts Canary Club where I connected with a local breeder. This sparked my interest in Fife Fancy Canaries. I was so impressed by the beauty and simplicity of these birds that I was instantly hooked and ended up leaving with multiple pairs of Fife Canaries originating from an award winning bloodline.
I am hoping my love for birds will continue on with my son, in the tradition of my family.
Sincerely,
Daniel A.
